Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Recall Issued After Reports of Illnesses August 27, 2015 Russell Maas Add Your Comments More than two million pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon is being recalled, following consumer complaints that led to the discovery that the bacon may spoil before the recommended use by date, posing health hazards to consumers. The Oscar Mayer turkey bacon recall was announced by the USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) on August 25, after the manufacturer received multiple illness reports from customers after consuming the bacon products. Kraft Heinz Foods Company opened an internal investigation, which led to the discovery that turkey bacon products with certain establishment numbers may be subject to spoilage before the manufacturer’s recommended “Used By” date. Heinz did not disclose in their report to the FSIS whether the spoilage issue was related to a packaging or coding error.
