Teavana Glass Tea Tumblers Recalled Due To Lacerations, Burns

A recall has been issued for roughly 470,000 glass tea tumblers sold by Teavana, after hundreds of reports were received of the glass breaking or shattering unexpectedly, posing a laceration and burn hazard for consumers.

The Teavana Glass Tea Tumbler recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on May 30, after at least 302 incidents were identified, including at least six reports where users suffered lacerations and other injuries, such as cut fingers, legs, and burned toes.

The recalled tea tumblers are doubled walled tea glasses that are equipped with removable stainless steel infuser baskets, removable lids, and various ornamental etchings on the inner walls of the glass.

Teavana sold the tea tumblers as parts of a gift set (set of 4) and one model was sold without a lid or tea infuser basket. The tumblers were packaged in color coordinated cylindrical packages and have a UPC number and SKU number located on a sticker that can be found on the bottom of the packaging.

The product was manufactured in China by Shaanxi Cathay Import and Export Corporation, Anhui Fuguang Industrial Co. and Hong Tai Yang Glass Product Co. and imported by Teavana Corporation of Atlanta, Georgia where the products were sold exclusively at Teavana stores and online at teavana.com from August 2007 through May 2013 for between $15 and $40 for individual glasses and $80 to $100 for sets.

Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the recalled tumblers and return them to any Teavana store for a free metallic tea tumbler and a complimentary 2 oz. package of tea, except for the following three locations; Columbia Mall in Columbia, MD, Dallas Fort Worth Airport in Arlington, TX, and Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Consumers may also mail in the tumblers or glasses to Teavana by calling the company and receiving a pre-paid mailer to ship the product. Consumers may also visit the firm online at www.Teavana.com and navigate to the “Glass Tumbler Recall” link for more information.
