Lotus Foods Ramen Noodle Recall Issued After Reports of Microwave Fires Involving Soup Cups

Over 200,000 Ramen Noodle products have been recalled due to incorrect labels, which instruct consumers to place the soup cups in the microwave, even though the containers are not safe for microwave use, and may cause fires and burns.

A Lotus Foods Ramen Noodle soup cup recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on December 13, following at least a dozen consumer reports of the soup cups becoming extremely hot, or sparking and catching on fire while being microwaved. To date, one injury has been reported involving a consumer who suffered minor burns.

Recalled items include certain ramen noodle soup products that are packaged in paper cups. According to the recall, the manufacturer reported to the CPSC the cooking instructions direct consumers to microwave the products in the paper cups, which are not rated for microwave use.
