Federal safety officials are warning consumers to use caution around certain LG electric ranges, due to the risk of the stoves being accidentally turned on by humans or pets.
Some electric ranges have knobs that can activate the stove when they are accidentally bumped by adults, children or pets, which can pose a serious safety hazard, leading to fires, injuries or fatalities, particularly if left unattended, during sleep, or when combustible items are placed on the burners.
Following recent events of this kind, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced an LG electric range recall on February 6, after receiving at least 86 reports of the front knobs activating accidentally, resulting in eight minor burn injuries and 28 fires.
Of the reported fires, at least five have resulted in property damage exceeding $340,000, and three resulted in pet deaths.

Customers can find the model number of these ranges inside the oven door or within the storage drawer at the base. A complete list of the affected models is detailed in the FDA recall notice.
The affected ranges were manufactured in Mexico and Korea and imported to LG Electronics USA Inc., where they were sold from 2015 through January 2025 for between $1,400 and $2,650 at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s and other appliance stores nationwide, as well as online at LG.com.
Customers are being advised to contact LG for free placement instructions and a warning label, which reminds users to activate the LockOut/Control Lock function on the range control panel to disable activation of the heating elements when the range is not in use.
The CPSC urges consumers to keep children and pets away from the knobs, to check that the range knobs are turned off before leaving home or going to bed, and to avoid leaving objects on the range when it is not in use.

Electric Range Hazards
LG is not the only appliance company that has had problems with its electric ranges over the past year. Many other major brands have issued recalls of their ranges following reports of fire incidents as well.
In May 2024, Frigidaire and Kenmore recalled over 200,000 electric ranges after receiving at least 200 reports of the ranges turning on without being switched on, failing to turn off, and heating to temperatures different from those selected. The recall indicates these defects have resulted in 14 fires and eight injuries from burns and smoke inhalation.
Samsung also recalled 1.1 million electric ranges in August 2024, after receiving 300 reports of the stoves accidentally turning on when the front-mounted knobs were unintentionally activated, leading to 250 fires and four injuries.
