Lean Cuisine, Stouffer’s Frozen Meals Recalled Due to Choking Hazard from “Wood-Like Material”

Lean Cuisine, Stouffer's Frozen Meals Recall Issued Due to Foreign Matter Choking Hazard

A recall has been issued for certain Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals sold at major grocery retailers nationwide, due to the potential presence of a wood-like material, which could pose a choking and suffocation risk to consumers.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals recall on March 17, after Nestlé USA, the parent company of Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s, received customer complaints about the contamination. At least one incident involved a potential choking hazard, prompting further action to remove the affected products from store shelves.

Nestlé USA is currently investigating how the foreign material entered the meals and working to prevent future contamination. Consuming these meals could present serious health risks, including choking or internal injury, leading officials to urge consumers to check their freezers and avoid eating the recalled products.

The Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals recall impacts a variety of products that were packaged between August 2024 and March 2025, and distributed nationwide for sale between September 2024 and March 2025, including:

  • Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli
  • Lean Cuisine Spinach Artichoke Ravioli
  • Lean Cuisine Lemon Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry

Consumers who have purchased one of the affected products should not prepare or consume the meal and should return it to the retailer where it was purchased for a replacement or full refund.

The company believes this is an isolated issue and is assuring customers they have taken action to address it.
