Huffy Ride-On Vehicle Recalls Issued Due to Fire, Burn Injury Risks

Federal safety officials are warning consumers to immediately stop using certain Huffy Ride-On vehicles due to the risk of overheating and fires, which pose a burn hazard for children using the devices.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the Huffy Ride-On Tonka Truck recall and Huffy Ride-On Torex UTV recall on April 24, following three reports of the vehicle controller overheating and one report of a fire consuming the truck.

Children’s ride-on vehicles are toys that are designed for children of various ages to operate as if they are driving the vehicles themselves. Some are merely push-along toys, while others are battery operated. In the case of the battery-operated toys, manufacturing defects can cause the products to overheat and catch fire, potentially leading to severe injuries for the child operating the vehicle.

The CPSC is warning that at least five burn injuries have been reported in relation to the recalled toys, and urging customers to stop using them immediately to prevent further incidents of severe burns, property damage or other serious safety risks.

Tonka Dump Truck Recall

The recalled Tonka Trucks include models 17362 and 17323, which can be identified by their yellow and black design with “Tonka” logos on the front grille and both sides. These ride-on vehicles are approximately 45 inches long, 32 inches wide and 24 inches tall. They feature four large wheels, two seats, a steering wheel, working LED headlights and a motorized dump bed that lifts with the push of a button.

The recalled trucks have date codes ranging from 15623 to 18724, printed on a label under the body of the truck. In the code, the last two digits represent the year, and the first three digits indicate the day and month of the year. For example, 15623 means June 15, 2023.

The trucks were manufactured in China and sold at Target and Sam’s Club stores nationwide, as well as online, from June 2023 through March 2025 for about $300.

Torex UTV Recall

Huffy is also recalling about 24,700 24-volt ride-on Torex UTV toy vehicles, following at least 20 reports of smoking or fire incidents, including five minor burn injuries.

The affected toy UTVs have model numbers 17249 and 17310, with date codes ranging from 16919 to 11122, which can be found under the body or near the rear wheel. They are black with red trim and measure 53 inches long, 43 inches wide and 27 inches tall. “Torex” labels are located on the front and sides of the toy.

The UTVs were manufactured in China and sold exclusively at Walmart nationwide and online from August 2019 through December 2024 for between $500 and $600.

Huffy is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled toy vehicles and to contact the company to schedule a free repair or replacement controller for the vehicle.

The corporation is contacting all known dump truck purchasers directly. Customers who have had repairs done to the UTVs by a third party will be reimbursed up to $50 for charges incurred from the third-party repair.

Huffy’s recall number for the Tonka Truck recall is 25-235, and its recall number for the Torex recall is 25-239.

Customers with questions may contact Huffy at 800-972-2453 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or else by email at service@huffy.com or torex@huffy.com, depending on the product being inquired about.
