Home Depot Ryobi Cordless Drill Recall Issued After Fires

About 455,000 Ryobi cordless power drills sold at Home Depot have been recalled due to a risk that they may overheat and start a fire.
The Ryobi cordless drill recall was announced last week by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) after Ryobi Technologies Inc., the manufacturer, received at least 47 reports of overheating, smoking, melting and catching fire. In at least 12 cases, the drills caused property damage to homes or vehicles, and two minor burn injuries were reported by users.
According to the CPSC, it is the switch that is overheating, causing the drill to pose a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

The recall affects Ryobi Model HP 1802M cordless power drills that were sold at Home Depot between January 2001 and July 2003 for about $100. The drills are black and blue and have the “Ryobi” in red and white on the side. The model number is printed on a white label on the right side of the drill. The drills are powered by an 18 volt rechargeable NiCad battery.
The CPSC recommends that any consumers who own the recalled drill immediately stop using it, remove the rechargeable battery, and contact Ryobi for a free replacement drill at www.ryobitools.com.

Cant find any info on the recalls at their website. . . . .frustrating to say the least!! Are there any better links out there, instead of just their home page!?!?
How do I turn my drill in for a good one?
we need more info on the recall. The web site you gave us the link for does not tell about the recall.
You need to call ryobi customer service. The website has some info, but you still have to call to set up something. They have fedex come get your drill and then a new one will be sent to your house. No charge to you at all.
“For additional information, contact Ryobi Customer Service at (800) 597-9624 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s website at http://www.ryobitools.com“
I just called Ryobi number you listed, 10 years after the recalled drill was purchased. Even in this COVID-19 Pandemic, They honored the recall and are sending Fedex to pick up this drill and then sending me a replacement. This why I am loyal to Ryobi.
