Frigidaire Gas Laundry Center Recall Follows Nearly 2 Dozen Reports of Fires

At least one consumer has suffered a smoke inhalation injury, and nearly two dozen others have reported problems with the recalled Frigidaire Gas Laundry Center dryers igniting during use.

Electrolux Group has issued a recall impacting nearly 14,000 Frigidaire stacked laundry machines, due to a risk that the dryer portion may catch on fire.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the Frigidaire Gas Laundry Center recall on July 13, indicating the manufacturer has become aware of at least 23 incidents involving the gas dryers catching on fire while in use, including at least one report of an individual sustaining an injury due to smoke inhalation.

According to the recall notice, the stacked washer and dryer units pose a fire hazard to consumers due to a defect in the seal of the dryer drums, which can allow the felt seal to fold inward and allow an accumulation of lint within the dryer unit.

The recall impacts approximately 13,600 Frigidaire Gas Laundry Centers sold in the colors white and titanium with “FRIGIDAIRE” printed below the dryer door.

The following models and corresponding serial numbers are included in the recall, and can be found printed on the white sticker inside of the dryer door:

  • Model number FFLG4033QW with Serial Numbers 4E44114739 through 4E81603034
  • Model number FFLG4033QT with Serial Numbers 4E44308482 through 4E81603380

The affected laundry units were distributed nationwide at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and other appliance stores from October 2014 until April 2018, and retailed for about $1,400.
