Evenflo High Chair Recall: Defective Seat Back Screw Could Fall Out
Approximately 95,000 Evenflo High Chairs have been recalled due to defective plastic caps and metal screws on either side of the seat, which could loosen and fall out. This has resulted in nearly 100 injuries for infants and toddlers, including broken bones, caused when the seatback suddenly reclined.
The Evenflo high chair recall applies to products manufactured prior to January 23, 2007, which were sold at retailers throughout the United States, including Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Burlington Coat Factory Baby Depot, Shopko and Walmart.com. They were sold for between $80 and $110 since January 2006.
Evenflo has received more than 1,000 reports of the plastic caps and screws which secure the seatback coming loose and falling out. This could pose a risk of the child falling out of the high chair or could pose a potential choke hazard if the loose caps and screws are put into their mouths.

Change Healthcare Data Breach Impacts Millions of Customers
A massive Change Healthcare data breach exposed the names, social security numbers, medical and personal information of potentially 100 million Americans, which have now been released on the dark web. Lawsuits are being pursued to obtain financial compensation.
Learn MoreAt least 140 reports have been received by the company involving the Evenflo high chair seatbacks reclining, falling back or detaching unexpectedly. This has caused at least two children to suffer broken bones, 47 reports of head injuries and bruises, and 45 reports of other cuts, abrasions and bruising.
Families have also reported at least 7 other cases where the caps and screws fell out of the Evenflo high chairs and were found in young childrens’ hands or mouth.
It is unclear when the first reports of problems were received by the manufacturer and whether the recall should have been issued sooner. In recent months, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has drawn criticism for their handling of other baby product recalls.
In October 2008, a historic Delta crib recall was issued for nearly 1.6 million cribs sold for over 10 years. The crib recall was issued due to a defect associated with the drop side of the crib, which resulted in several infant deaths from suffocation or entrapment.
An investigative report published earlier this month by the Chicago Tribune suggested that the recall could have been issued years earlier if the agency had properly acted on a number of reports of problems and infant deaths associated with the Delta cribs. The CPSC has indicated that they changed the way they handle safety complaints last year, which now allows them to look for patterns among every safety complaint.
The Evenflo high chair recall involves chairs with the following model numbers: 3001395A; 3001633A; 3001669; 3001700A; 3001713; 3001713A; 3001730A; 3001732A; 3001733; 3001742; 3001742A; and 3001756.
A white label on the seatback bears the model number, “Evenflo” and the production date. “Evenflo” is also printed on the push button located on the front of the tray.
Consumers have been advised to stop using the high chairs immediately and to contact the company for a free repair kit by calling (800) 233-5921.

Hi, just wondering if people who have had problems with evenflo highchairs which have serial numbers other than those listed in the article, could please post the serial numbers of their highchairs so others can check if they have the same models. Thanks very much, Andrea.

I have had no luck so far in getting my high chair replaced. Mine is one of the models listed in the recall. And I am not satisfied with simply using the repair kit...as the repair kit has also been proven to fail. This chair cost me $350 in Australia. And I will not put my son back into it. Any advise? Though I am greateful that I learned about this issue in time...by pure chance may I add!

My highchair has the same problems that this recall explains, but while the serial number matched the recall number the date did not. We have the Evenflo Majestic Highchair which has recently, finally, been recalled. We had issues with the screws popping out of the recliner section of the chair when we used it with our then 4 month old, I called Evenflo last March, they sent me a repair kit with longer screws, still didn't work. Customer service had told me then this was not a common problem and that even with a screw missing, highchair was safe to use, not dangerous. I'm so furious they lied about my son's safety!!!!! Our longer screws did pop out a few times, we put them back in, I called back and since the highchair still held up fine and they told me it was okay to use, we wrongly trusted Evenflo and continued to use the highchair (my husband had checked it and felt is was okay). I just called in response to last weeks recall and they said they do have a record of me calling, sorry that happened and would I like a new set of screws? They won't give a refund and the new screws (which they will ship out in approx. 2 weeks, and recommend we don't use the highchair in the meantime) supposedly work better than the original replacements. I am returning this to the store, and if they won't accept the return, I'll have to eat the cost and throw out the chair. We've had so many of our kids' things recalled, it's infuriating that these companies only have to send screws that may or may not work and before their belated recalls, our kids are at risk and to boot this time they assured me there was no danger. Please do not buy Evenflo and know that you can't trust the info you receive from customer service. I'm am so thankful my son wasn't injured. We've had other issues with most of our Evenflo products not working correctly, but all involving bells and whistles not structual. I just can't understand how these companies put more money into their impossible to open packaging than into their product safety. I checked on Amazon.com's reviews and found too many reviews of these chairs with children being hurt.

I also have an Evenflo highchair, purchased in 2005. It has hardly been used. I purposely purchased a chair with a reclining seat however I find the seat is always somewhat reclined, too far back for my child to eat properly. Now have a second infant and was hoping this recall was for the model I have (it's not). This chair now stays at my Mother's where it is only needed occassionally and I [Show More]I also have an Evenflo highchair, purchased in 2005. It has hardly been used. I have an Evenflo, but it's not this model that also fell apart. The place where the kids feet go unscrewed and fell off, where I lost the screws to it. Isn't baby's the most precious thing in the world and that's what makes it go round. So why is soo much of our stuff made in other countries where it's not watched and more things are being recalled. This is getting ridiculous!
