Eggo Cinnamon Toast and Eggo Toaster Swirlz Cinnamon Roll Minis Recall

|

About 4,500 cases of Kellogg’s Eggo Cinnamon Toast waffles and Eggo Toaster Swirlz Cinnamon Roll Minis have been recalled after Georgia health inspectors discovered listeria in some samples.

The recall was announced on Wednesday after a laboratory test by the Georgia Department of Agriculture found Listeria monocytogenes bacteria in a sample from Kellogg’s Atlanta plant.

Although there have been no illnesses reported in connection with the contamination, and Georgia health inspectors said the batch containing the contamination was not shipped, Kellogg’s indicates that they are issuing the Eggo recall out of “an abundance of caution.”

Exposure to Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which can result in potentially life-threatening injury. Symptoms could include high fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhea, with infants, the elderly and those with a weakened immune system most vulnerable. Listeriosis can also cause meningitis, and in pregnant women it could cause miscarriages and still births.

The recalled Eggo products include cases of Kellogg’s Eggo Cinnamon Toast Waffles in the 10-count package, with UPC code 3800040440 with “Best If Used Before” dates beginning with NOV22 10 EA, NOV23 10 EA and NOV24 10 EA, and Kellogg’s Eggo Toaster Swirlz Cinnamon Roll Minis in the eight-count package with UPC code 3800023370 with “Best if Used Before” dates beginning with NOV15 10 EA.

Kellogg has ceased production at the plant and has begun an investigation into the possible sources of contamination. The plant will be cleaned and sanitized following a “hygienic restoration plan” that Kellogg has filed with Georgia.

Consumers are advised to return these products to the store where they were purchased.

My son eats cinnamon toast waffles on a regular basis, at least 4-5 times a week! When there was a shortage back before the Christmas holiday I was told that the plant suffered mechanical damage and not a bug problem! This is an outrage…to find out there are parasites in my son’s food.

Listeria is gram-positive and rarely seen to cause harm in humans. Use wikipedia.

Will we ever see them again and when?

We recently had finished two boxes of the Cinnamon Toast Waffles a couple weeks ago. My children would have displayed symptoms of illness by this time, already, correct?
