Dynacraft Motor Scooter Recall Issued Due to Fall Hazard

About 10,700 battery operated motor scooters sold at Walmart and Toys ‘R’ Us are being recalled due to problems where the scooters may accelerate suddenly during use, posing a serious injury risk for young riders and bystanders.

A Dynacraft Monster scooter recall and Hello Kitty High City motor scooters recall were announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on February 26, after the manufacturer received at least nine reports of the scooters accelerating at random during use. At least three injuries have been linked to the sudden acceleration.

The Dynacraft motor scooter recall consists of 5,500 purple and black colored scooters with Monster High graphics located on the front panels and rear fenders. The Monster High models were manufactured between October 5, 2012 and November 7, 2012 with the model number 8801-14 and serial code QYCEI followed by a six digit number ranging between 0031215 and 014456. The manufacture date, serial, and model numbers can be located on the underside of the scooters on the center platform.

Both recalled models were manufactured in China by Zhejiang Qunying Vehicle Co. LTD and distributed by Dynacraft BSC Inc., of American Canyon, California. The Hello Kitty models were sold exclusively at Toys R Us stores and on toysrus.com nationwide from October 2012 to January 2013 for about $279.
